PIRACY IS KILLING INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Piracy is nothing new. Hundreds of years ago, pirates used to plunder and steal. They would attack merchant ships and loot them. Those who were lucky were abandoned on isolated islands, and eventually established their own settlements.

In recent years, areas known to be dangerous to ships have been off the coast of Nigeria and the Sea of China. But this did not do much harm to business. What has caused concern is the piracy that is now along the Eastern coast of Africa, perpetuated by Somali renegades.
